Gary's Pine Shop ..10" x 12" ..o/p

This particular painting was executed on a stained red- orange panel. The colours on the palette were the same colours that were used in the last couple of paintings. My medium for this painting was Odourless Mineral Spirits.
The composition was drawn in with a brush loaded with a fluid mixture of ultramarine blue and perm. alizarin. The buildings and shadows in this case, were washed in with a more diluted mixture of the same colours.
As the painting progressed, I went over the walls of the building with their darkest colour values, continuing to then lay in the lightest colour values. I also did this for the ground, snow, and tree shadows. At this stage of the big picture , I layed in the sky , adjusting the colours and their values as I went.
Lastly, I layed in and strengthened the details of the posts, weeds, trees and corrected what I felt to be values in other areas that felt to weak or to strong.
I also played with the lost and found edges. I think that this helps to destroy that "cut out and pasted down look" of the painted objects.
All in all, I think that the painting was a success..
'til next

Frank,
I love the way you explain in detail exactly which order you executed the painting. To me, an alla Prima en Plein Aire is the most difficult .. I am hoping to really go to your level some day. I love the painting with the colors and impasto in the details here. Colours are wonderful also.

Hi Frank,
thank you for the "modus operandi". Definitly a small jewel with a great sens of solidity, great tones, and a live feeling to it.
