The Fisherman's House 10 x 12" ..o/p
I have been ill with a cold this past week that just seems to hang on. The last couple of days have seen a lessening of the "puffy head" feeling.
Today I played with the thought of using a painting from the past that I was less than pleased with, as a colour sketch for a new painting. I loved the original scene and did not want to see it wasted !
It was a scene from a painting trip that I made with a painter friend in Canada's Provence of Nova Scotia .
The panel for this painting is a panel that has two layers of gesso applied to it. I did not stain this panel but in retrospect, wish I had. The spots of under painting I think would have added to the final visual effect of the painting, IMHO.
My usual two colours of each - red, yellow and blue were on my palette and I added Naples yellow, yellow ochre and of course, titanium white.
My medium for this piece was odourless mineral spirits , used liberally at the start of the painting and less so as the painting progressed. I was following the "fat" over "lean" rule.
I was happier with the copy of the original, but I felt the painting could have been stronger with fewer values of each colour overall.
