The Ski Hills Hut   ..11" x 14"   ..O/P

The old ski hills hut has not been in operation for a number of years. In its later years it became rather derelict, which just seemed to add to its old world charm. It never really aroused the painter in me to want to paint it in the winter months.
During the summer it was hard to get a good angle on the scene because of the summer foliage and undergrowth.
But now, the late autumn, early winter, before the snow settles in it seems is the perfect time to paint it.

This painting is on a Masonite panel that has two coats of (textured)  gesso applied to the surface. The surface was not prestained which meant that I was painting on a white panel.

I used my new limited palette with the addition of yellow ochre and burnt sienna.

The base colours or darkest colours in the layout were applied thinly (runny) using a lot of medium ( solvent )
Some of the spots where I applied the paint more heavily, the wet surface was left to evaporate for just a short period of time while I worked on other areas. This allowed the fresh paint to be applied without skipping over the thin wet surface.

I  rather like what looks to my eye to be a 'fresh look' or 'feeling' to the painting'.

..'til next...

Thank you very much for your kind and generous compliment. It is very humbling and at the same time, reassuring to myself that I am on a 'right path for me'.

This has an energy and vitality that I love to see in painting, and it makes it even more enjoyable knowing that it was painted outside!

It was a pleasure to view your blog and I was impressed with the variety of your subject matter and drawing.
..I find it interesting, that one would leave The Cotswolds in England to paint in France !

Respects, Frank..
