Roadside Bluff   ..8" x 10"   ..O/P

This painting is a little on the rough side when it comes to refining the "look or "finish". By the time I had finished the piece, the importance of the "look" had shifted from the finish to the composition. The thing that I became interested in included the dark pines reaching into the lighter sky and the lighter trees against the darker background in the bottom right of the painting. The juxtaposition of the two was exciting to me.

The piece was painted on a Masonite panel prepared with two coats of unsanded gesso and a ground coat of beige-pink oil paint mixed with plenty of mineral spirits and applied to the surface. This application was then 'blow dried ' with a hair dryer to evaporate the medium and then lightly rubbed with a paper towel to smooth out the light covering of colour. This was done with both applications of the beige-pink colour.

The colours used were the usual colours that I use in my limited palette. I did add a chromium green and green earth to my palette. Just in case !

I was excited by the composition and may carry the painting further to a more final stage.

..til next.
