Summer Marsh   ..7" x  9"   ..O/P

I returned to a scene that I had visited a number of times before. I was surprised to see that the little marsh had began to show a hint of the colour that was to come.
In this small painting, I decided to 'pump up' the intensity of the 'reds' that in the original scene seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the strength of the summer greens. I really liked the balancing results.
The foreground is from a previous autumn colour sketch and was added in the studio.I thought it to be more effective painted in front of the pine tree than the disappointing short grass in the original scene.

I used my usual limited palette for this painting. Very little medium ( odourless solvent) was used at the start of this painting. As the piece progressed to the finish, more solvent was added to the paint mixtures. This addition allowed the paint to leave the brush and 'stick' to the surface of the thicker layers of paint without disturbing their surface.

A bit early, but it was nice see and add that colour even if I had to exaggerate it.

'til next..

I like this painting Frank, those greens in the light and the way you blend the colors in the far distance, invite the viewer to enter in it. Cheers

Jesus...You have been a busy painter this summer."Loved the lake freighter !"
I am happy to see that you are doing a workshop on Manly Macdonald. I usually try to get to the library when in Belleville to see his work. A favourite regional painter of mine.
Thank you for your "kean eye" comments on my latest piece. Appreciated!

Take care..

Mariano.. Great to hear from you. I guess that the holidays are over for another year ?
I really like the immediacy of the brushstrokes (painterly ?) in your latest pieces. A sure sign of maturity in your work I am sure.
Thank you for your comments on my latest painting.
