Cold, With Clear Skies ..10"x 12" ..O/P

Again, another painting that was painted on a non pre-stained panel with a lot of gesso texture.
The same palette as previous paintings was used for this piece.
I decided that I would continue to go for the " oil wash ' and "wipe out" method that I had attempted in a couple of previous paintings. In this piece I started with the traditional method of laying in the background, (sky first) , followed by the middle ground trees. I was well pleased with the 'look' of the sky, and hoped for the same results for the mid-ground trees. The trees seemed at the time to have the right feel, but in retrospect, I now think that they could have been much lighter and cooler to emphasize a more distant perspective between themselves and the middle ground building.

I was pleased with the composition of the middle ground buildings.
Perhaps my own criticism would be that this area and the foreground area texture provided by the gesso is not seen. ...The texture of the paint took over ! The oil wash and wipe out was lost at this point.

Live and learn !

'til next..

Again a great one Frank, although the last two paintings the buildings are a bit too central placed for my taste.

Never the less I like them a lot.

Maybe you seen them already, but otherwise when you do have a few bucks to spare, ...

David Curtis

Two very intriguing DVD's. He uses that gesso texture surface a lot and prestained as well. It's very informative and well worth it.

HI Rene ! Thanks for your comment and compliment.

I have not seen the David Curtis DVD's before but I will certainly look into the URL that you sent. Thanks again for that. I did watch some of the trailers.
