R.I.P. ..11" x 14" ..O/P

I just could not resist painting the other side of the truck with the open door. To me, the open door was an eye catcher with a natural sense of humour. It cannot help but conjure images, serious or humorous, as to the "why" of it. And the "No Trespassing" sign ?
The support for this painting was a Masonite panel with two coats of gesso. No under coat of my reddish orange was applied to the panel. I tryed to keep the texture of the brush stroke as I applied the second coat.

Again, the palette for this piece remains the same as for previous paintings.

As for the method, I tried intentionally to lay in the darkest colours in the shadow areas and used a "wipe out" method to lighten the values. For further lightening, I used some mineral spirits on the rag or paper towel to remove the paint. Doing this, allowed me to be able to add a further stain or wash of colour over the area. Most areas were handled this way or with a dry brush effect. Smaller details were added at the time I felt the painting was about finished.

The painting was definitely a valuable, continuing experiment.

'til next..

I've enjoyed your "snow" paintings, Frank.
They have a refreshing spontaniety about them. :)

Yes, that is a good thing, but I am not so sure that it closes.
