Nature's Colour Exhibit... 9" x 12" ... O/C
Unlike some previous paintings, this piece was painted on a stretched canvas. This canvas had been previously under painted with a reddish orange wash and treated as my other painting supports.
It felt strange to paint on a stretched canvas after so many pieces on Masonite panel. A number of my paintings in the past were painted on a 10" x 12" format. It did seem odd not to have that extra inch at the top of the support. I noticed it mostly when laying the painting out. In spite of that, It was not long before I felt the familiar 'bounce ' of the brush as the paint hit the canvas.
For this painting, I used a 'split palette' ( a warm and cool of the three primaries). As it was the autumn of the year , I also put out a ribbon of yellow ochre, Indian yellow to give me more choices in my greens , reds and oranges. And, let us not forget titanium white !
til next..
