Sailing Away ( Collins' Bay)  6" x 8"   o/p

Every once in awhile it is nice just do the 'devil may care' kind of thing. This was one of those times to 'just go for it'...a feel good time. I feel that those loose, free times are as important to an artist as a "time out".
This was my time out...

This painting is on a 6" x 8" Masonite panel with only a couple of coats of gesso applied to the surface. No undercoat of any colour was added before painting.
Again, only the three primary colours and white were used in his painting. Odorless Mineral Spirits was the medium used, and only as needed.

'til next...

Just goes to show that you don't need a huge palette of colors to make a lovely painting!

Hi Vic..! Thanks! Both are not far from my home. As you can tell by the size and 'finish', they were painted on the quick.

I have found in the past that the methods of artists are as varied as each individual. I find this all very interesting. It is of course, a whole other subject.
How I 'work' is again another of the varied methods that seems to have evolved over time and works for me.
It is not carved in stone.
Perhaps others will take from this what works for them and ignore the rest. Or perhaps, ignore it all. :~)
I lay it out there, perhaps others as yourself will be interested as well.
Thank you for your interest, Vic.

All the best..

Hi Vic,
I really enjoyed your blog. The energy and immediacy in your brushstrokes is quite compelling.
Thanks for the info on your grounds, and mediums etc. I've just switched from acrylic to oils, and mediums are very confusing for me.

Hi Claire..Thank you for the grand compliment on my painting
Glad to share the little that I know, or think I do... :~)
My advise, such as it is,concerning your switch to oils would be for you 'not' to be concerned about mediums at this stage. For the most part, I still find that the best way is to use and mix the oil paint with the available oil that comes with the colour in the tube...If you find that you need to thin the paint for certain passages (I) add a little odourless mineral spirits, depending on the amount of the mixture, approx. one brushful of spirits at a time. No point puttng in a great amount , only to find that the paint mixture is too thin.
I hope that I have not confused you... :~)

Happy painting.
