Spring, A New Beginning 11" x 14" o/p
I thought that I would try something a little different this time. The difference is in the palette.
The colours for this painting ware ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, yellow ochre and titanium white. And on the side, (and just in case)...a neutral grey, alizarin (for purples), cerulean blue and a touch of veridian. I like to use it in many of the darker mixtures. cerulean blue, some veridian gives a nice turquoise colour. It was used spottedly as a lighter value in the impression of the stone wall for the side of the house.
The panel was prestained a light pinkish orange.
I used a mixture of OMS (odourless Mineral Spirits) and Liquin because the first layers of paint were thinly applied and I wanted dryer, stickier areas to apply further layers of paint to.
It was fun to experiment with the different limited palette and the colours it could make.
'til next..

Hi Frank,
It seems a more traditional approach , but very much alive I my self love to put brush strokes in semi-dry thin layers. They really stand out. I use copal medium to get the thin layer to dry fast. For turquoise, try if you feel like it: Winsor@Newton Winsor green with a tiny amount of any phtalo blue-green and white. Let me know what you think.
Great job on your scene, I hope you were worm. Happy painting
Your new palette definitely works! And you know exactly where to put those colors. Love the turquoise on the house. Lovely painting!
