Last Of The Spring Snow    12 x 16   O/P

Well, it certainly looks like the last  snow has decided to finally leave. The brown grass of early spring is appearing in patches in the fields and north slopes.
For a short period of time, the melting snow exposes the dust and dirt of a long winter. To me, this is a very uninviting time to paint out doors. Everything and their colours seem so mutted .

With spring and summer arriving, it seems like a good time to paint on a larger panel.
The panel for this paintng is 12" x 16" and it was prepared prior to painting with a coat of mixed orange -red, oil colour, well thinned with odourless mineral spirits.
The colours on my palette for this painting were, titanium white, ultramarine blue, alizarin, cad red light , cad.yellow medium, cad lemon yellow.

Nothing like a beautiful spring day to get the painting juices flowing...

PS.. Spring is here, I think.   Time to shut down the "snow machine".

'til next..

Hi Frank,
Miss the snow on your blog. Olso i prefer the small size painting for your style. Your caracteristic brushstrokes don't show up for some reason, got to be one of those between season oil! It is nice and the palette is good just there is not much enthusiasm in it. (My take, and I am bizzarre sometime) All the best Frank , happy painting

Your paintings are so full of life. They have gusto. I love your work but if you will allow me to say that this one is lacking your usual excitement. I love the anticipation of a new season seems to reenergize me.
