Summer Pens 9" x 12" Oil/panel

The criteria for this painting was the same as the previous painting. ..Still using the Chromatic black. Again, chromatic black is a neutral, tinting black made from complementary colours.
I did use "liquin" in the beginning stages of this panting and applied the colours thinly. As the painting progressed, I used less liquin and more OMS (odourless mineral spirits) for the thicker paint layers. I try to follow the " thick paint over thin paint" reminder.
My palette remained the same for this painting as it was for, 'Opinicon Road In Winter'.

'til next..

Wow, Frank. I didn't have to wait long for the next one :) I really am enjoying the play of cool and warm colors in the trees in the top half of the painting. Also, a question: I may have missed this in earlier posts, forgive me if that is true, but are you mixing the black yourself, using complimentary colors, or buying it premixed?

Thanks you.

Hi Frank,
what a lovely winter scene! I think snow and You have an affinity for each other.

Nice painting, I'm amazed at how much colour is used and it still looks subtle.

Craig..Thanks..
The black that I am experimenting with is a Chromatic Black that is a neutral tinting black made from complementary colors. It is a premixed and tubed paint and sold at art supply stores. It is manufactured by Gamblin.

Take care.

..Happy painting.

Hi Bonnie. Thank You.

As you say, I think that the key word is "subtle". Not only in the color's higher value but in it's softer application. (Save the harder edges for the main subject.)

Seems to work for me... :~)

Keep well.

Luzia.. Hi ! Thank you for the greeeting. :~)
Thank you too for the compliment. The winters in your blog look more harsh than ours.
I really like your delicate water colours. I find them very sensitive.

Take care..

I love your paintings--and the gentle snow in the background heightens the "experience" of visiting..!

Hi..Thank you very much for that very generous compliment.
Yes, I thought that it(snow) was very appropriate for this time of year. Found it by mistake. Gee, some things do happen for the best.

Do take care..
