Abbey Dawn Road 6" x 8" oil on gessoed panel
Autumn is creeping up ! I have noticed that in many areas of the country side that the colours of our fall season are beginning to take over. The summer greens are gone ! For the next couple of weeks, the autumn colours will dominate the plein air scene.
This is a relatively small painting for me but seems to to be a popular size for other outdoors painters. Aside from the Masonite panel being gessoed, it also has a ground coat of lemon yellow and a little cad. yellow med. mixed and applied to the surface with a lot of medium, evaporated with a hair dryer and rubbed to an even coat. I applied two coats this way.
The painting itself was painted with very little medium (odourless mineral spirits) The base was "scumbled" and "dry brushed" on and when the under painting felt right, I applied the middle and lightest colours in that order with the high lites last.
A fun little warm-up Autumn painting to get me started.
