Bellevue House 11" x 14" O/PBellevue House is a former home of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John Macdonald, 1815 - 1891. It is staffed by young folk in period costumes, eager to greet, guide and inform the visitor.
After setting up to paint, discovered that I did not have (forgot) my OMS and white pant. ...What to do... I decided that I would use my lightest Naples Yellow and my lightest gray.
This combination seemed to work well as I washed in the off white and the more shadowed areas of the building. I managed to lay in most of the painting including the darkest greens.
I did mange to borrow some white paint and some turps from a generous fellow painter. This made finishing up much easier and gave the painting that final 'punch' that the piece needed.
This photo gives a view of the original house, although it is not at the same angle in which I painted it. The painting experience was made even more special when unexpectedly, the staff served refreshing lemonade. :~)
A perfect ending to a perfect painting day.
