"Spring Marsh" 11" x 14" oil/panel

The painting in progress ..

The scene ..

This painting was executed with the same palette as the previous paintings. I used the colours from the left side of the palette to lay in the painting and continued to work to the finish by working to the right side of the palette and the lighter colours.

My thought on painting this piece was to decrease my painting time . Of course, there is a trade off, and in this particular case, I feel that the colour values and drawing suffered. I hope that this will even out as time passes. This is a two hour painting.

I feel that decreasing the painting time of each painting will eventually sharpen my observation of the subject and enable me to paint with more confidence the quick changing light and shadows.

'til next...

Hi Frank,
I think the coloring is fantastic, very spontaneous and effective painting. However i wonder what would you have accomplished if you spent 4 hours on it instead of 2.

Love the spontaneity in your brushstrokes.

I think speed is definitely the thing to go for frank. As you say, it should lead to confident and decisive paintings. With all the changing light, I don't think more time is helpful.

Yes. This is my whole point. Perhaps I did not explain it simply enough. :-)

Thanks, Keith
Take care..
