"A Northern Lake In Autumn" 10"x 12" Oil/Panel

It seems like a strange autumn to me this year. The colours appear to be in "patches" or so they seem to me. It means more scouting around the countryside and perhaps settling for less as far as subject matter goes. Some of the trees have lost their leaves while others are just beginning to turn. Perhaps this is a good sign and the season will last a little longer.

This piece was painted on a Masonite panel that was prepared with three coats of gesso and one coat of acrylic red-orange applied to the surface.

My palette for this painting was Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Alizarin, Bright Red, Cadmium Yellow Med., Veridian, Raw Sienna and White. Not quite my usual limited palette. I used little or no medium in my paints for this piece.

I think that the absence of the cooler Lemon Yellow, helps to keep a warmer feeling to the finished piece.

A fun day, a fun painting.

..Peace.

I love how you handle trees. I am so tentative with the subject (and it shows). You're right, with the absence of that yellow you mentioned, it does make the scene warmer.

Nice work, Frank, as usual! You are so right about the yellow light. I don't think I would have realized this unless you'd pointed it out.

Thank you Jayne rose ! :-) Happy that you concur with the thoughts on the cool yellow.
I think sometimes it is not a bad idea to close the eyes and just paint the trees that you see in your imagination, then add a few trunks and branches with open eyes.
Of course, I say this with tongue in cheek. :-)
I know what you mean. It has been a constant fight to loosen up as I come from a graphics backgrkound

Take care..

Now, If I can only remember it for the next painting. :-)
