"Country Lane" 10 x 12 in. Oil on Prepared PanelThe panel for this painting was prepared with my usual three layers of gesso and a ground coat of, in this case, a Burnt Sienna and a spot of Cadmium Red .
My layout and value study were worked out on the panel with my trusty super soft graphite pencil. I find that using the soft graphite pencil helps to keep the drawing loose and to avoid getting involved with the details at this early stage of the painting.
The layout was then washed or in some areas, dry brushed with odourless mineral spirits. I let this stage dry before proceeding with the painting of the subject.
The colours for this piece were my usual limited palette. The only other colour that I added later in the painting was Sap Green.
Hmmm, the mosquitoes have not "burned off" yet !

Absolutely brilliant. One of my faves of your work. This one sums you (the painter) up in one big colorful expression. Big Thumbs up!
Not so obvious as the previous one but still very well noticeable that lovely glow of reddishness.
I used it also a bit, works well indeed!! Thanks again, and keep up the springy like green paintings.

Thanks Rene..I like to vary the values of red showing. I am afraid that it may begin to appear or be read as 'gimmicky'.
The acidy spring greens are gradually turning into the "ripe" greens of summer.. :-) The 'greens' fight begins...
