"Wolfe Island Recluse" 11"x14" Oil on panel

I have named this piece, "Wolfe Island Recluse" and it is a plein air painting of a building that sits by itself, dilapidated and forgotten. A summer painting.

The object of this painting was to use larger brushes than I would normally use to apply the paint. By using the larger brushes, I would be concentrating more on the bigger shapes within the piece and less on the details, especially in these, the early stages. As the painting progressed, I found the larger brushes produced a much looser look or feel to the painting. It was now a natural progression in the painting process, to reach for the smaller brushes in order to pull the painting together as it neared completion. I was surprised at how fast the panel was covered and how pleased I was with the fresh results of the big brushes.

This painting is Oil on panel and is 11"x14" The "bigger brushes" were Nos. 8 and 10

Take care..

frank a,
Great paintings but you should really get to bed earlier so you'll be in good shape to paint more of the same! I really don't think you need comments or advice from the members of this late night mutual admiration society...with their "card tricks" and "quick draws"...to validate your own work! You're in a class by yourself. One of a kind.-Anonymous
