We are really into the autumn season now. The leaves of the trees are presenting their colours to the fullest. The fall tours are in full swing and the school nature trips with the children excitedly gathering the coloured leaves for their latest projects can be seen at most nature reserves.
This seemed like the ideal spot to set up for an afternoon of plein air painting. No sooner had I set up, when it seemed it was now time for the "schoolbus parade" to begin on the dusty gravel entrance road. In my mind, it seemed that the transportation of the children to and from the conservation area went on forever, as did the dust.
Usually, I like to paint in the early fall, just before the leaves are in full bloom or just as they are finishing up. The colour is still there, but not exploding in your face, begging for your attention. "Paint me!...Paint me!.... This can be a tough time of the year to paint.
In spite of the dust, I managed to do this painting. In honour of the parading buses and the excited school children, I have named it, "Our Class Nature Trip".
The painting is 16 x 20 inches, oil on stretched canvas.

If this painting looks familiar to you , it is because it is from the same view as "Spring Break", an earlier painting from the near past.. This painting was executed the fallowing autumn. What drew my attention to the area, was the water covered lily pads, that seemed to "glisten in the sun". It was a worthy subject and proved to be a real challenge as far as colour was concerned. Another painting from the near past.
This painting is 16 x20 inches and is an oil on stretched canvas.

See y'u
